Sometimes you get a record to review and it just has you scratching your head wondering what the fuck have I just listened to. Well, lo and behold MFC Chicken has just done that as a chicken based album has just driven me cluckin' mad.
 
So with a retro swinging beat (well it is on Dirty Water Records after all) the music is delivered with aplomb and some of the sax playing is superb, but what's with the chicken based tunes, really?

Lake Bears! is just as compelling and thrilling an encounter. Its first track is Lakebears Theme and in some ways has an even more anarchic and Lake Bears Cover Spread.inddvoraciously devilish manner to its presence and sound than on the other release. Imagine Little Richard even more over excited than normal whilst Screamin’ Jay Hawkins and Jerry Lee Lewis bring their own distinct slightly salacious invention, then you are close to the two minutes of rock ‘n’ roll rampage going on.

Listen with Monger: MFC Chicken "Solid Gravy"

Trying to explain the phenomenon that is MFC Chicken to the uninitiated is tantamount to arguing for the need to wear to tie with a man who doesn't own a shirt. I would assert, however, that there is a great need for MFC Chicken in this world than there is for the neck tie - although I'm sure the band would disagree as they are far snappier dressers than this humble blogger. This second Long Player from the London based, multi-national group is not a far stretch from their first but then again, if ain't broke why the hell fix it? Instead, MFC Chicken have done some fine tuning and put those months of relentless gigging to good use.
