Bands:
  • Vicars | See Thee Vicars on Myspace

Teenage rock'n'roll terrorists from the small town of Bury St Edmunds on a mission to kung-fu kick all the boring bands out of existence! Real raw and vintage sounding garage-rock'n'roll! Their single, Don't Try To Tell Me, came out on Dirty Water Records earlier this year. Their debut album, "Back on the Streets", came out on Dirty Water Records last year. A second single, You Lie, is out now and brand new album "Psychotic Beat!", which heads in a more sixties garage direction away from the Childish-inspired punky debut - released on 15 December - has been getting great reviews.

Time: Thursday, 12 Aug 10 - 7:30 pmto 11:00 pm
Venue: The 100 Club
Bands:
  • Revellions | See The Revellions on Myspace

With influences including the likes of Dick Dale, The Ventures and The Chocolate Watchband, these young Dubliners combine the gut-wrenchingly raw sound of a garage band in heat with a smooth heroin surf atmosphere. Their debut album is out on Dirty Water Records.

  • Fabulous Penetrators | See The Fabulous Penetrators on Myspace
The Penetrators sound like Hound Dog Taylor and Bo Diddley having a good old medieval jousting session with their gee-tars to the voice of the rotting corpse of John Lennon, a melodic French dwarf and an over-sexed bear, with the drummer from Slayer just having heard Little Richard for the first time.
  • Vinyl Stitches | See The Vinyl Stitches on Myspace
Regulars in the audience at Dirty Water, these two chaps and two ladies play primitive rock’n’roll. This gang has fun on their minds, fuzz in their lustful hearts, and dark thoughts in their soul. They recreate that time when young Americans came out of their sleepy towns, high on illicit substances, and set about changing the world with a 4/4 beat. Employing a heady mix of The Stooges, Thirteenth Floor Elevators, and The Velvet Underground, they create an orgy of foot-stomping noise to soundtrack an imaginary psych exploitation movie.
Time: Saturday, 21 Aug 10 - 8:00 pmto 2:00 am
Venue: The Kings Cross Social Club
Bands:
  • Despondents | See The Despondents on Myspace
Taking their cues from punk bands past and present The Despondents aim to bring us short sharp garage punk tunes that hit you like an atom bomb. If you like The Rip Offs, Teengenerate, and The Real Losers you will know where they are coming from.

  • Armitage Shanks | See Armitage Shanks on Myspace
Medway's premier league 1977 punk band have been bashing out all manner of punk rockery since 1991. Back in action with a freshened-up band and better than ever, they are belting out the finest old school punk classics alongside new classics of their own making. Resist their albums "Urinal Heep" and "Top Of The Plops" at your peril. Do you dare to miss the authentic sound of the suburbs as Dick Scum and chums leer in your face and veer your brain cells towards the inevitable cider and glue apocalypse? It's punk and it's rock, it's punk rock.
Time: Sunday, 22 Aug 10 - 6:00 pmto 12:00 pm
Venue: The Stag's Head, N1
Brief:

With Dirty Water DJs. FREE entry. The Stag's Head is at 55 Orsman Road, just off Kingsland Road, near the canal.

Time: Friday, 27 Aug 10 - 8:30 pmto 2:00 am
Venue: The Gaff, Holloway
Bands:
  • King Salami & the Cumberland 3 | See King Salami on Myspace

The King howls like Screaming Jay Hawkins with Bo Diddley chasing his coat-tail and with Andre Williams trying to offer up some of his bacon fat. This man never stops shakin' and twistin' and groovin' while the Cumberland 3 (former members of the Ulcers, Chinese Lungs and Parkinsons) play their own branded mix of vintage rockabilly desperate rock'n'roll and a bit of soul with fire, energy, gusto and fun!

  • Peter David & the Wilde Sect | See Peter David on Myspace

Their approach to music took after the hard-driving style of the barbed-wired* infused rhythm’n’blues and beat favoured by Danish kids in the mid-1960s, the more well known of them being the Rolling Stones, the Kinks, the Yardbirds, Bo Diddley, etc, but also the Downliners Sect, the Namelosers, Q65, Peter Belli & les Rivals, and so on. Their second vinyl single has recently been released by Dirty Water Records. (* Barbed-wire in Danish is “pigtråd”, which is 1960s Danish teen slang for noisy, raw, electric music.)

  • Atomic Suplex | See Atomic Suplex on Myspace
Maximum Rock'n'Roll says: "Screaming, overdriven rock'n'roll compression at it’s best. Atomic Suplex are the British Guitar Wolf, the English Lightning Bolt or maybe the London New York Dolls." Time Out, meanwhile, says: “This is probably what Bill Haley sounds like if you have the worst tinnitus in the world. Not so much a sonic cathedral as a sonic corrugated iron shed.”

  • Minnesota Voodoo Men | See Minnesota Voodoo Men on Myspace
Whilst the Minnesota Voodoo Men can't speak English and have absolutely no idea where Minnesota is, they are in fact rock'n'roll at its absolute best. Reports of their live shows talk of them playing a great Yardbirds cover (in Japlish, or possibly Engrish) and stage acrobatics to leave you breathless. The band's music is based on the classic rhythm'n'blues influenced groups of the mid-1960s, like the formerly mentioned Yardbirds, Petty Things, Rolling Stones, etc. But from all we've heard they use their influences as a starting point to do nothing less than entertain, making the audience hold their breath and wonder whatever could happen next.

Bands:

  • Curlee Wurlee! | See Curlee Wurlee! on Myspace
Playing a mix of 1960s oriented organ-driven beat, surf and fuzzed-out garage-punk consisting they describe themselves as a “sexy Frenglish beat fuzz sensation”, seeing as their songs are kind of a bit French and a bit English, but totally rock and roll. This is the most original garage bands of the last decade both for their music and due to their positioning themselves in the left wing with their lyrics and political positioning. Their new LP features 17 smashing hits, average length around two minutes, with a powerful blend of garage, soul, pop and mature though juvenile self-written compositions.

  • Walter Lure | See Walter Lure on Myspace

When Jerry Nolan and Johnny Thunders quit the New York Dolls in 1975 they got ex-Television bassist Richard Hell to start a new band, adding Walter Lure on guitar. And so the Heartbreakers are born. With Billy Rath replacing Hell when he started the Voivoids they relocated to London where they join the Sex Pistols on their aborted 1976 tour and released the “Chinese Rocks” single before putting out their debut album, L.A.M.F. on which Walter wrote/co-wrote some of the finest Heartbreakers tunes. Walter Lure is also known for The Waldos, whose 1995 album "Rent party" was produced by Andy Shernoff (of The Dictators). A legendary figure of the New York punk rock scene, this is a VERY rare trip outside of the NYC area!

  • Johnny Throttle | See Johnny Throttle on Myspace

Formed just a few short months ago (Febuary 2008) by various lowlife has been and never weres from the Parkinsons, Shakin’ Nasties, Urban Shocks, Jackoffs and Menace, JohnnyThrottle play real rock’n’roll the way it was meant to be – snotty, moronic and straight to the point. They bang out a furious 20-minute (smoking ban-friendly) set of short and catchy Modern Lovers meet Slaughter and the Dogs meet the Electic Eels inspired mini-operas with the kind of incompetent teenage enthusiasm which only the borderline middle-aged can truly muster.

Time: Saturday, 30 Oct 10 - 8:00 pmto 1:00 am
Venue: The Snooty Fox, N5
Brief: Good food, excellent selection of bees (including a couple of guest ales), and great music. See you there! FREE entry.
