The Mummies to reform
They said it would never happen but those garage punk legends The Mummies are getting back together!
The only date confirmed so far is at the Funtastic Dracula Carnival in Valencia, 9–11 October 2008, alongside The King Khan & BBQ Show, the Untamed Youth, Thee Vicars, Palookaville, the New Domolators, plus others still to be confirmed.
What this means is that on Friday 10 October the Dirty Water Club will not be on.
Venue: Music Room at the Boston Arms

Subway Sect | See Subway Sect online
Without doubt one of the finest punk bands of the era, their first gig was the 100 Club Punk Festival with The Clash, Pistols and Damned, etc, on 20 September 1976. Edwyn Collins later described Vic Goddard as "the best songwriter of his generation". He says, "The Clash were more like a traditional rock group, but Subway Sect made a glorious racket. " -
Morlocks | See The Morlocks on Myspace
The Morlocks emerged from the ashes of early-1980s California garage band The Gravedigger 5, but with a heavier sound, more murderous songs, and the trademark snarl of singer Leighton Koizumi. And then disappeared, back into the grave. But now they're back! These guys have recaptured the feel of primal Stones, Watchband, and Pretty Things, with Leighton’s firey vocals completely in command. The Morlocks have a killer sound that can’t be beat. They mean business. -
Templars | See Thee Templars on Myspace
Hailing from the hamlets of Essex is a band called Thee Templars (and you know how we like a band that spells Thee with two "e"s) - although their individual influences vary, as one rabble they have their feet firmly held in the garage, with a side helping of punk rock. Their sound is raw, hard, English (in the Medway tradition) and true.

Saturday gig in Kentish Town
Time: Saturday, 11 Sep 10 - 6:00 pm to 11:00 pmVenue: Annie's Bar, Kentish Town Road
Bands:
- King Salami & the Cumberland 3 | See King Salami on Myspace
The King howls like Screaming Jay Hawkins with Bo Diddley chasing his coat-tail and with Andre Williams trying to offer up some of his bacon fat. This man never stops shakin' and twistin' and groovin' while the Cumberland 3 (former members of the Ulcers, Chinese Lungs and Parkinsons) play their own branded mix of vintage rockabilly desperate rock'n'roll and a bit of soul with fire, energy, gusto and fun!
- Florence Joelle's Kiss of Fire | See Kiss of Fire on Myspace
Florence Joelle is a songstress with a style all her own and a subconscious colonised by vintage American tunes who sings of things that go bump in the night. With a voice somewhere between Peggy Lee and Edith Piaf and a band that fuses Link Wray guitar slashing and rockabilly rhythms to great effect.
- Minnesota Voodoo Men | See Minnesota Voodoo Men on MyspaceWhilst the Minnesota Voodoo Men can't speak English and have absolutely no idea where Minnesota is, they are in fact rock'n'roll at its absolute best. Reports of their live shows talk of them playing a great Yardbirds cover (in Japlish, or possibly Engrish) and stage acrobatics to leave you breathless. The band's music is based on the classic rhythm'n'blues influenced groups of the mid-1960s, like the formerly mentioned Yardbirds, Petty Things, Rolling Stones, etc. But from all we've heard they use their influences as a starting point to do nothing less than entertain, making the audience hold their breath and wonder whatever could happen next.
Free Sunday gig - 19 September
Time: Sunday, 19 Sep 10 - 6:00 pm to 11:59 pmVenue: Hoxton Square Bar, N1
Bands:
- Curlee Wurlee! | See Curlee Wurlee! on MyspacePlaying a mix of 1960s oriented organ-driven beat, surf and fuzzed-out garage-punk consisting they describe themselves as a “sexy Frenglish beat fuzz sensation”, seeing as their songs are kind of a bit French and a bit English, but totally rock and roll. This is the most original garage bands of the last decade both for their music and due to their positioning themselves in the left wing with their lyrics and political positioning. Their new LP features 17 smashing hits, average length around two minutes, with a powerful blend of garage, soul, pop and mature though juvenile self-written compositions.
- Loud Squirt | See Loud Squirt on MyspaceSkuzzy punk’n’roll in the style of the New Bomb Turks is the order of the day with these Dutch guys. They don’t attempt to reign in the energy at all during a frenetic and action packed live show. Spitting out songs like a machine gun you get a full on tsunami of fast and raw garage punk rock’n’roll, but a singer that still keeps a soulful vibe, that makes me think that they’re soon to be underground legends.
Flaming Stars at The 100 Club
Time: Thursday, 30 Sep 10 - 7:30 pm to 11:00 pmVenue: The 100 Club
Bands:
- Flaming Stars | See The Flaming Stars on mySpaceNew York's Village Voice says The Flaming Stars "manage to conjure the Jesus and Mary Chain, '50s swamp rock, and nights spent guzzling cheap wine and leaning unsteadily against a jukebox". Even when strings start popping and kick drum pedals are falling apart, something good remains. Keyboards straight from the nearest haunted house, a mud-spattered bassline, or Smokin’ Joe flying over his low-slung drum kit, you’ll find yourself reminded of Jonathan Richman & the Modern Lovers, The Stranglers, Richard Hell and Iggy Pop.
- Florence Joelle's Kiss of Fire | See Kiss of Fire on Myspace

- Jolenes | See The Jolenes on MyspaceFour ladies, one banjo, one fiddle, one double bass and one guitar make up The Jolenes, a good-time hillbilly/bluegras outfit in matching frocks with a serious love of Hank Williams, The Carter Family, Tony Joe White, Charlie Feathers... indeed, for all things southern and rocking.
